Belbuta

The artistry of Jaipur — crafted for the modern world.

About The Designer

Jyoti Sharma, a true Jaipurite, has always been enchanted by the vibrant Jaipuri prints. Her passion for the beautiful art of fabric printing quickly led her to embrace her calling. After graduating from JVWN University, she set out to fulfill her dream of establishing her own manufacturing unit from scratch.
Her journey began in 2020 during a trip to Paris, where she discovered styles not available in India. This inspired her to create garments that blend international trends with the timeless beauty of Jaipuri prints, preserving the ethnic aesthetic. Ambitious and eager to learn, Jyoti gained hands-on experience in garment manufacturing, which ultimately led to the launch of her brand, Belbuta . Our clothing line draws deeply from India’s rich heritage of hand block printing. Each piece we create is meticulously handcrafted, weaving stories into every stitch. Our artisans utilize wooden blocks, natural dyes, and generations of expertise to bring our designs to life.

The Printing Process

This is where the true magic unfolds. The artisan dips the block into the dye tray for even coverage, then carefully presses it onto the fabric. They tap it with their hand or a mallet to ensure full contact, repeating the process across the fabric—one press at a time. For multi-colored designs, artisans align multiple blocks in layers, demanding precision and rhythm, as even slight misalignments can distort the pattern.

Carving the Wooden Blocks

Our skilled artisans hand-carve intricate designs onto blocks made from seasoned teak or sheesham wood. This meticulous process requires a separate block for each color in the design, using tiny chisels to create detailed raised patterns. Depending on their complexity, some blocks can take several days to carve. These blocks serve as vital printing tools, passed down and reused through generations.

Mixing the Natural Dyes

In block printing, color is more than just pigment; it represents a living element of the story. Each hue is mixed by hand, guided by intuition and experience rather than machines—adding a little more heat or sunlight, stirring patiently until the perfect shade emerges. These aren’t factory-produced colors; they are sunlit blues, soil-warmed reds, and plant-washed yellows—vibrant and gentle on both the skin and the planet.

Drying and Fixing the Print

Once printed, the fabric is air-dried, often under the sun, and then subjected to processes like steaming or curing to set the dyes. In some instances, it is washed again to remove any excess dye and enhance the vibrancy of the colors.

Crafted to Completion

After the fabric is printed and dried, its journey is far from over. Every block-printed textile is thoughtfully cut, stitched, and finished with the same care that went into its printing. No shortcuts and no mass production. The result is a garment that not only looks beautiful but also feels like heritage. Each crease tells a story of traditional craftsmanship, and every thread honors the artisans who created it. These aren’t just clothes; they’re conversations in cotton, and you’re now part of their narrative.
